MALAIKA FIRTH, was once a name known only in Barking, a suburban town in east London, but is now one that is recognized and sought after internationally throughout the fashion/modeling industry. Firth was signed on the spot to Premier Model Management, a modeling agency based in the UK, in 2011, when she attended an open-call casting that her mother had arranged for her. Firth credits the start of her career to her mother, who encouraged her to try modeling after learning about Premier through an episode of “The Model Agency”. The young model is mutli-cultural, and owes her exotic appearance to her Kenyan, Ugandan, Seychellois, Swiss and British heritage.
At the ripe age of 17, Firth had her runway debut at the New York Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2012 collection for Odilon. The Fall of 2013 brought Firth more success than most starting models could ever hope for. That fall season she starred in a campaign for Prada, making her the first black model in 19 years to secure a Prada campaign, the last being Naomi Campbell in 1994. That fall she also walked the runway in the Victoria Secret Fashion Show, and made her cover debut for Vogue. Again she participated in New York Fashion Week for the Spring/Summer 2014 collections, Firth walked over 40 shows, including Marc Jacobs, Dolce & Gabbana, Jean Paul Gaultier, among others. For the Spring/Summer 2014 campaign season, Firth booked campaigns from Valentino, Burberry, and Prada for the second-consecutive time. In May 2014 she was the face of the “Today I’m Wearing”, style blog where she documented her outfit of the day for a month with Vogue.
For all these reasons and more, it is clear that Malaika Firth is a name we will be hearing a lot more of.
