When Uzo Aduba first auditioned for Netflix’s original series “Orange is the New Black,” she didn’t expect a callback for a character called “Crazy Eyes.” Yet, nobody could have been a more suitable choice. For Aduba —who in person is a regal and cheerful figure —  the role of a hyper-emotional, unstable prison inmate surprisingly fit like a glove.

As a former Broadway star, Aduba has had no problem playing a variety of characters even well before her show-stopping performance in “Orange.” She was first recognized at the Olney Theater Center for the Arts, winning an award nomination for Outstanding Supporting Actress. She then debuted in Broadway’s “Coram Boy,” and later demonstrated yet another talent with a singing role in the musical “Godspell.” Aduba’s exceptional portrayal of Crazy Eyes in “Orange” landed her an Emmy nomination, as well as the status of a credible Hollywood star.

Next, Aduba is planning a starring role in musical comedy “Pearly Gates” (2015), a vast departure from her role as Crazy Eyes but a little more reminiscent of her Broadway roots. Although we can only speculate about whether or not Aduba will return for season three of our beloved Netflix drama (we sure hope so!), this rising actress is sure to have plenty in store for her fans.

So, which “Orange” role did Aduba originally audition for? According to a leaked video, apparently she auditioned for all of them! In case there’s any doubt about her ability to wear a multitude of hats, click here to watch Aduba’s unbelievable talent at work.
