broods17 Hailing from Auckland, New Zealand, brother-sister duo Georgia and Caleb Nott, AKA Broods, have  spent the last month playing sold-out shows across America and Canada. It’s hard to believe they  just released their first self-titled EP through Capitol Records back in February. Of course being  from the same city as pop princess Lorde has led the media to compare the two. Broods also worked with producer Joel Little who happened to produce every song on Lorde’s debut album.

Georgia Nott tells Billboard, “[The Lorde comparison] has come up quite a bit, but I kind of expected  that — working with Joel and being a girl that’s from New Zealand, that kind of meets the criteria of  a Lorde impersonator. I think Lorde’s incredibly talented, and… it’s impossible not to be in awe of  her or be influenced by her in some way, but we have to build our own identity outside of ‘Lorde and  the rest of New Zealand music.”

Georgia’s voice bears a similarity to that of Imogen Heap, but hers is a softer and more delicate version. Caleb offers background vocals as a supplement to his sister’s airy pipes in a number of songs on the EP. The dreamy synth-pop echo chamber of a track that is “Bridges” will have you yearning to dance the night away. Other memorable tracks include the slower paced, ethereal “Sleep Baby Sleep” and “Taking You There.” The closing song “Coattails” is the definition of dream pop and is undoubtedly worthy of attention.

Look out for Broods’ debut full-length album later this year–produced by none other than Joel Little!

    Magic-rude-single

Grammy award-winning producer and singer/songwriter, Nasri, claims that the first time he collaborated with guitarist, Mark Pelli, it was like magic! Not long after, they started their own band called, MAGIC! – Go figure. Nasri and Pelli went on to include two more members to Magic!: drummer, Alex Tanas; and bassist, Ben Spivak. All four of the band members are originally from Toronto, Canada, so they grew up listening to Canadian music. Because they are all from similar backgrounds, the quartet clicked immediately. Magic released their debut single, “Rude”, on December 5th, 2013. The song ended up being more of a success than they were expecting. “Rude” hit top 10 Billboard charts, topped famous artists like John Legend in digital downloads, and was nominated for “Word’s Best Song” in 2014. With the triumph of their debut single, Magic began collaborating with other artists and started working on their first album.

Soon after “Rude”‘s success, Magic teamed up with Columbian singer, Shakira. Together, they released their song, “Cut Me Deep”, on March 27th, 2014. The song ended up being a stand-out single from Shakira’s album and got more views on YouTube than any of her other songs. Listen to the song on YouTube here!

On June 5th, 2014, Magic announced details about their debut album, “Don’t Kill The Magic.” The band released information including: the track list (11 songs), a photo of the album’s cover, and the release date (July 1st, 2014). The album is a cross between Reggae and Pop-Rock, just like their single, “Rude.” They believe that with the popularity of their first single, the album shouldn’t fall short from attaining prosperity. Nasri talks a little bit more about the album, and says, “This music is meant to put you in a good mood. We want to bring people together to have a good time. It’s not about us. It’s about the music. We want you to be a part of that energy and a positive musical world.” So far, the world has felt the positive energy! Can the entire album portray the same feel? Find out when the album releases on July 1st, 2014!

21 year-old singer/songwriter, Tinashe, initially began her career as an actress. In 2000, she was featured in the TV film, Cora Unashamed. Tinashe then went on to be a voice for the 2004 animated film The Polar Express, where she worked alongside Tom Hanks. In 2008 and 2009, Tinashe was a reoccurring character in the well-known sit-com Two and a half Men. Her acting career was on the path to success, but she decided it wasn’t the path she wanted to continue down. Singing was always what Tinashe was truly passionate about.

In 2007, Tinashe and four other young women her age created a band called “The Stunners”. The group worked together to hit it big time but they just didn’t have what it took to make it. In 2011, the band split up, which left Tinashe with two options: go back to acting, or become a solo artist. You can probably guess what the young, head-strong, go-getter decided to do; She began working as a solo artist.

Tinashe started covering popular songs and posting them onto YouTube in late 2011. She covered songs like “How To Love” by Lil Wayne and “We Found Love” by Rihanna. She says that her genre of music would be classified as, “urban, rhythmic, and pop.” At the end of 2011, Tinashe released her first single onto YouTube, “Can’t Say No.” Then in February 2012, she released her debut mixtape “In Case We Die.” Listeners were giving positive feedback, which eventually led to record labels noticing her exceptional talent. RCA Records picked up Tinashe and began working immediately. Together, they worked on her second mixtape titled “Reverie”, which was eventually released on September 6th, 2012, and her third mixtape “Black Water”, which was released in late 2013.

On March 24th, 2014, Tinashe released her first music video from her debut album titled “Aquarius.” The music video is the song “2 on”, which features SchoolBoy Q. It received almost 2 million views within the first 4 months of being posted! Incredible! Expect more great things to come from Tinashe!

Music is evolving into originality through genres and who represents this ingenuity better than Misterwives? The unique combination of genres this band has molded together may advance them quicker than other starving artists out there.

In 2012, Mandy Lee (vocalist), William Hehir (bassist), and Etienne Bowler (drummer) all came together in NYC to produce their own genre of music and eventually created their own band called, “Misterwives”. They began performing at local venues in NYC which is where most of their publicity came from. The three members of the band have since added two more people to their group – Marc Campbell (guitarist), and Dr. Blum (keys/trumpet/accordion). Misterwives claims that the type of music they produce is classified as feel-good, oldies, indie-pop, soul, and folk. Their inspiration comes from bands like The Smiths, Fleetwood Mac, and No Doubt. The wonderful thing about Misterwives’ music is their ability to reach a multitude of moods; From music that makes you want to get up and dance, to music that is perfect to fall asleep to.

The band recently released their debut EP album, “Reflections”, which is available on iTunes. Before the release of their album, Misterwives came out with “Reflections” music video, which received a whopping 100,000 views within the first few months. This number of views is out of the ordinary for such a new band.

CHVRCHES-3The new and fresh electro-pop band, Chvrches, has made its way to the top in a matter of just two years. Chvrches wanted to differentiate themselves from the commonly-searched words online to market themselves more efficiently; By using “v” instead of “u” in the word “churches”, they have done just that. This clever idea came from the three band members: Lauren Mayberry (vocalist), Iain Cook (keyboardist/vocalist), and Martin Doherty (keyboardist/vocalist). Mayberry, being the youngest member of the band, has her master’s degree in Journalism, as well as a law degree. With Mayberry’s brains, and the musically inclined keyboardists/vocalists, the band has rapidly advanced in the music industry.

In 2012, the band Passion Pit recognized the potential that Chvrches acquired and asked them to open up for them on their U.K. tour. This was an incredible way for Chvrches to start off. Their music hit the charts within the year, but two songs in particular were acknowledged on iTunes: “The Mother We Share” and “Lies”.

On September 20th, 2013, Chvrches released their first album titled “The Bones of What You Believe”. Virgin and Goodbye Records released this album while Glassnote Records labeled it. The 14-song album was nominated for World Music Award’s Worlds Best Album. Chvrches certainly knew what it took to succeed in just one year.

Chvrches will be on their first world tour May 29th, 2014 – October 10, 2014. The band will hit venues like: Barcelona, Germany, Canada, and states all over the U.S.
