One Direction may just have found their twin band, but this time they’re
girls! The young and beautiful British girl group known as Little Mix got their start just like the boys on the UK version of X Factor where they were crowned winners in December of 2011. Within the next 2 years after the show the spunky girls Perri, Jesy, Jade, and Leigh Anne quickly climbed the ladder of stardom.

After being the first group to win the competition the girls signed to Simon Cowells record label Syco Records and released their “winners single” which was a cover to the song “Cannonball” by Damien Rice. Little Mix released their first debut album DNA the following year in 2012 which had no hesitation in being a hit sensation with the public. The album charted top five in 8 different countries, and surpassed previous world known girls group Spice Girls’ record of having DNA chart at a higher spot in the U.S then their debut album SPICE. The following year of 2013 got even bigger for the British girls with the release of their second album, Salute. Their single, “Move” off of the Salute album took off and was a major hit throughout major countries once again.

The best part about these girls is that they don’t have one default sound to their music, they experiment with all different kinds of tones and unique mixes. They dip into trap, old school R&B, a-cappella harmonies, bold emotional lyrics, and fun dance beats. These girls just keep getting hotter and hotter with both their style and music. This year in 2014 Little Mix gears up for their biggest UK tour yet which will hit major cities including the 02 Arena in London. Wishing them the best of luck!

Curious about what these girls are all about? Check out the groups social media accounts below!

Bassnectar-NVSB-Album-Art1Bassnectar has done it again. His new album Noise vs. Beauty combines not only his traditional dubstep sounds but also harmonious vocals, smooth melodies and even guitar riffs. His tenth LP is certainly one of his best creations to date. Lorin Ashton, the mastermind behind Bassnectar, describes the album as “more vast than anything I’ve ever done.” Read his liner notes about each song on his website!

Lorin’s take on dubstep can be heard on tracks like “F.U.N.” and “Loco Ono,” but the album takes a stab at dreamy indie rock on the lead single “You & Me.” The track features W. Darling’s ethereal, angelic vocal. The subsequent song “Lost In the Crowd” contrasts significantly with “You & Me.” Zumbi of Zion I and Fashawn spit verses on this epic glitchy, trap track. Bassnectar and 16-year old YouTube sensation Jenna Sousa deliver a sexy female-driven anthem on “The Future.” The song with the most swag is by far “Don’t Hate the 808.” It oozes with West Coast style. Lorin started using 808 bass samples back in 1996 after recognizing the sound in songs by NWA and Run DMC. Today that sound is everywhere. Lafa Taylor delivers an important message in this song: “I got nothing but love for the hater, but try to shut us down and you get the darth vader!”

There’s a reason Bassnectar calls Noise vs. Beauty his favorite album. It’s full of diverse and eclectic sounds and proves that Lorin Ashton is a genius–a master at his craft. After a summer filled with festivals, Bassnectar will kick off his U.S. NVSB tour on October 3, so be sure to pick up a ticket ASAP.

1294Craft Spells’ sophomore album Nausea (Captured Tracks) is perfect for lazy summer afternoons and cozy winter nights. It’s not the kind of album you’d play at a party or on a road trip–it’s lead partygoers to make confused and judgmental faces and would put you straight to sleep on a car ride. That being said, Justin Vallesteros, the frontrunner of the group has created an album full of sunny melodies, bouncy pianos, swelling violins, and expansive vocal harmonies. The album is bathed in reverb, pitched somewhere on the edge of sleeping and dreaming. Each mid-tempo song flows effortlessly from one to the next with lyrics that speak to strong feelings of insecurity and the begrudging acceptance of change.

Album highlights include the title track “Nausea,” “First Snow,” which is a slight rework of “After the Moment” from their debut album Idle Labors, and the muffled trip-hop outlier “If I Could.” From the very beginning of this LP, it’s clear that we’re listening to a completely new band. Where Craft Spells’ previous album felt sluggish, their latest, Nausea flourishes.

Grammy award-winning producer and singer/songwriter, Nasri, claims that the first time he collaborated with guitarist, Mark Pelli, it was like magic! Not long after, they started their own band called, MAGIC! – Go figure. Nasri and Pelli went on to include two more members to Magic!: drummer, Alex Tanas; and bassist, Ben Spivak. All four of the band members are originally from Toronto, Canada, so they grew up listening to Canadian music. Because they are all from similar backgrounds, the quartet clicked immediately. Magic released their debut single, “Rude”, on December 5th, 2013. The song ended up being more of a success than they were expecting. “Rude” hit top 10 Billboard charts, topped famous artists like John Legend in digital downloads, and was nominated for “Word’s Best Song” in 2014. With the triumph of their debut single, Magic began collaborating with other artists and started working on their first album.

Soon after “Rude”‘s success, Magic teamed up with Columbian singer, Shakira. Together, they released their song, “Cut Me Deep”, on March 27th, 2014. The song ended up being a stand-out single from Shakira’s album and got more views on YouTube than any of her other songs. Listen to the song on YouTube here!

On June 5th, 2014, Magic announced details about their debut album, “Don’t Kill The Magic.” The band released information including: the track list (11 songs), a photo of the album’s cover, and the release date (July 1st, 2014). The album is a cross between Reggae and Pop-Rock, just like their single, “Rude.” They believe that with the popularity of their first single, the album shouldn’t fall short from attaining prosperity. Nasri talks a little bit more about the album, and says, “This music is meant to put you in a good mood. We want to bring people together to have a good time. It’s not about us. It’s about the music. We want you to be a part of that energy and a positive musical world.” So far, the world has felt the positive energy! Can the entire album portray the same feel? Find out when the album releases on July 1st, 2014!
