Earlier last week, an unknown source leaked an image of a Beyonce Album Part 2 release confirmation for mid November. The snapshot revealed a tracklist and release dates as well as a number of features from Frank Ocean to Rihanna to Blue Ivy. Needless to say, this image  roused much excitement; however it also met its share of skepticism, mainly surrounding the fact that this surprise album was listed for release on Monday, Nov 25 2014, when Nov. 25 in fact falls on a Tuesday this year.

It turns out the skeptics were right. The speculation that an entire new surprise album would be released later this month turns out to be invalid; rather, the singer is releasing a platinum box set for her self-titled album which debuted earlier this year. The set will include a live performance DVD and six additional songs. The set will include six extra songs, two of which have never been heard, a live DVD, a music video DVD, a photo booklet, and an official 2015 Beyonce mini calendar.

Steven Ellison, better known by his stage name Flying Lotus is the prodigious Los Angeles producer known for his dynamic experimental jazz influenced beats. The artist has released five albums and six EPs since 2006, not to mention releasing a visual album as a rapper under the moniker Captain Murphy. He is the nephew of famous jazz pianist Alice Coltrane (and her husband John Coltrane) who he cites as a major influence on his style and sound. Though he himself is signed to Warp Records, he also has his own label Brainfeeder which houses Thundercat, Daedelus, Mr. Oizo, and more. In more recent years, Flying Lotus has also produced a number of tracks for various rappers.

Flying Lotus’ latest album You’re Dead! was released October 7th, and features guests such as Kendrick Lamar, Snoop Dogg, and Herbie Hancock. You’re Dead! is arguably Flying Lotus’ most experimental album yet, as it jumps back and forth between chaotic jazz sequences of racing drums, bass, and keyboards and relaxed, flowing dream-like sequences of light keyboards, airy vocals, and almost extraterrestrial droning synths. All album artwork, including the cover and an image for every track was contributed by Japanese guro manga artist Shintaro Kago. Ellison commented on the album in terms of its title, “it’s the one experience we have in common. I wanted to make something that captures death from different angles—from the sad moments, to the confusing moments, to maybe even the blissful and silly ones.”

Flying Lotus is currently on tour in North America (with a single show in London) promoting You’re Dead! and will head to Europe in April 2015. Here are the upcoming dates:

10-23 Royal Oak, MI – Royal Oak Music Hall
10-24 Chicago, IL – Concord Music Hall
11-07 London, England – The Roundhouse
11-09 Austin, TX – Fun Fun Fun Fest
11-11 Tempe, AZ – Marquee Theatre
11-15 Santa Cruz, CA – The Catalyst Club
11-17 Portland, OR – Roseland Theater
    11-18 Seattle, WA – Neptune
11-19 Vancouver, British Columbia – Commodore Ballroom

Ora is best known for her success as a singer in the UK where her self-titled debut album “Ora” (2012) debuted at number one and produced two number one singles “R.I.P.” and “How We Do (Party).” Her latest hit is her feature on Australian rapper Iggy Azaelia’s “Black Widow,” which reached number 2 on the US Billboard Hot 100 and is now certified platinum in the US and Australia. The first single off of Kendrick Lamar’s highly anticipated third studio album, “I” has finally arrived. Lamar’s label, Top Dawg Entertainment, shared the song via Soundcloud on September 21st, just over a year and a half after the rapper’s last single. His last album Good Kid, M.A.A.D. City was met by rave reviews across the board as well as a vast positive public reception upon its October 2012 release, setting high expectations for its follow up.

“I” poses a slightly happier, upbeat but perhaps less aggressive sound thus unheard from the rapper, whose previous work was marked by noisier driving beats tucked between a trove of laidback West Coast grooves. The latest single samples the Isley Brothers’ funk song “Who’s That Lady,” and consists of cheery piano progressions with upbeat percussion calling resemblance to some Outkast hits such as Hey Ya and B.o.B. The self-love topic of “I” (whose hook sings “I love myself” four times over) is also new for Kendrick, as his previous album mainly explored growing up in and escaping the hood and his consequential love and hate for the city and the system respectively. “I” is a step perhaps in a more mainstream direction in accordance with Lamar’s public success, but does not take away from the authenticity that has made his music so widely appreciated thus far.

British singer-songwriter and producer Sampha Sisay, who goes mononymously by Sampha may currently be best known for his features on hit songs by Drake, Solange, Jessie Ware, and SBTRKT. To date, Sampha has only released two EPs of his own on the indie label Young Turks (also home to The xx and Jessie Ware). However, with talks of a debut album in the coming future, the already infamous songster is set to shoot amongst the ranks of those whose work he’s been featured on.

Sampha’s music combines the rich soulfulness of his voice with floaty and often dissonant electronic beats, producing a distinctive electro meets R&B sound. Though he’s not touring currently (and reportedly doesn’t plan to anytime soon), he has been playing various smaller gigs in England. His last American appearance was with Drake performing “Too Much” on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon in September 2013.

Taliah Barnett, otherwise known as FKA Twigs is transfixing the music world with her debut album LP1, released earlier in August. The English-born dancer turned singer/songwriter released her first work as a musician as recently as 2012, and became known not only for her unique sound which combines elements of indie jazz-rock, R&B, and trip-hop, but also for the striking visuals featured in her music videos. Like her music, her visuals are hypnotically slow but powerful, reminiscent of a minimalist Bjork.

LP1 has gained critical acclaim from Metacritic, Entertainment Weekly, and Rolling Stone with its airy vocals which dance between a dynamic mixture of pulsing, droning synthesizers and subtly poppy progressions, as well as its hard-hitting, intimate topics such as beauty ideals, sex, and love. The album also features major credits such as Paul Epworth (Adele, Paul McCartney, Coldplay), Emile Haynie (Eminem, Lana Del Ray), and Devonte Hynes (of Blood Orange).

FKA Twigs is currently on an international tour to promote LP1 and will play shows in the U.S., the U.K., Germany, Denmark, Poland, and more.
