    35 year old British comedian, actor, writer and director, Richard Ayoade, is best known for his role as ‘Maurice Moss’ in the British Channel 4 sitcom The IT Crowd. Ayoade was born in London and is the only child of a Norwegian mother and a Yoruba-Nigerian father. He studied law at Cambridge University.

    His role on The IT Crowd is causing him to become a British household name, and in ’08, he won the award for an outstanding actor in a TV comedy series at the Monte-Carlo Television Festival.

    More recently, this well-known actor across seas is now fast becoming a Hollywood name. His role as Jamarcus in The Watch is putting him in the limelight as he acted alongside A-listers such as Ben Stiller, Vince Vaughn, and Jonah Hill. The Watch, which came out on July 27th, 2012, follows four neighborhood vigilantes (Stiller, Vaughn, HIll, and Ayoade) who try to keep their community safe from an alien invasion.

    Our September 20 post anticipated the release of Florence + The Machine’s sophomore album, Ceremonials, on October 28. Now that the album has been available for one week, the band can anticipate the #1 spot on the UK album chart.

    With sales of over 50,000 copies in the first two days if its release, Ceremonials is expected to push Coldplay’s Mylo Xyloto down to #2 by this weekend.

    Ane Brun is a singer, songwriter, and vocalist from Molde, Norway.  Since 2003 she has recorded a total of 8 albums consisting of live material, compilations, and duets.  She runs her own record label, Balloon Major Recordings, and is currently touring as an opener and back-up singer on Peter Gabriel’s New Blood Tour. She is featured in “Don’t Give Up” on his 2011 studio album New Blood.

    After growing up in Molde, Ane spent a few years moving between Barcelona, Oslo and Bergen where she studied Spanish, law and music in college. During this time, she also began writing her own material and performing small shows while making a living working in bars and record stores.

    Once moving to Stockholm in 2001, Ane began to jumpstart her music career. She recored her debut album, Spending Time with Morgan in 2002 on DetErMine label. Ane spent the next few years touring Europe and taking breaks until she produced A Temporary Dive in 2005, which earned her rave reviews and several award nominations including a win for the Norwegian Grammy for Best Female Artist. A collaboration with the band Madrugada on the single “Lift Me got Ane another Norwegian Grammy the same year.

    A live DVD was filmed and released in 2009 of a show at Stockholm Concert Hall that showcased the singer’s live talent. She recently released  It All Starts with One, which reached #1 on the Swedish charts.

    Florence + the Machine "Ceremonials"

    Grammy Award winning indie pop band Florence + the Machine are set to release their second album Ceremonials on October 28, 2011.  Welch entered the studio for a two-week recording session with producer Paul Epworth, with whom she worked with on Lungs.  She said the new album was inspired by science because a lot of her family are either doctors or pursuing to become doctors.

    Florence + the Machine are known for their rock edge and soul felt lyrics.  Producer Paul Epworth described the sound and feel of the new album to be a lot more soulful than previous releases.

    After spending a few years off the scene Gwen and her boys are back. The ever-loved No Doubt has been in the studio recording their new album. In an interview with Ryan Seacrest, Gwen said “We got about 10 songs done and we want to do a few more just in case, but it’s a really good record, I really love this record.” The album is slated for a fall release.

    Following their last record ‘rock steady’ in 2001, their comeback  album was inspired by all music they love from Depeche Mode to The Cure, as well of hints of reggae and ska. It goes without saying that Platinum Rye is very excited for this record.

    We quickly fell in love with Ellie Goulding back in 2009 and since then, everyone all over the world has too.

    Since we first talked about Ellie the buzz about her music has grown.

    Goulding is the second artist ever to be named the number one predicted breakthrough act of the year in the BBC’s “Sound of 2010”. She also won the Critic’s Choice Award at the BRIT Awards in the same year.

    Her second studio-length album, Lights, was released in the UK last March and reached number 1 on the UK Album Charts. The US version was released just last week on Polydor Records and has already reached number one on the Top New Artist Album chart.

    Last month, Ellie was nominated at the 2011 BRIT Awards for Best British Female Solo Act and Best British Breakthrough Act.

    Her song, “Everytime You Go”,  was featured last year on the CW’s “Vampire Diaries”.  “Your Biggest Mistake” has also appeared in an episode of “The Inbetweeners”.

    You may remember Emily Browning as the eldest sibling from the 2004 film Lemony Snicket’s A Series of Unfortunate Events , in which she starred along side Jim Carrey.  Seven years later, Browning is portraying a similar character in Sucker Punch; slated for release 3/25/11.

    She will portray a  young girl who is locked away in a mental asylum by her wicked stepfather where she will undergo a lobotomy in 5 days time. Faced with unimaginable odds, she retreats to fantastical world in her imagination where she and four other female inmates at the asylum plot to escape the facility.

     

     

    Lucy Hale is a regular on Pretty Little Liars, the USA hit series. This year, the TV star will be gracing the big screens in the much-anticipated flick, Scream 4.  The 21 year-oldbeauty will portray Rebecca in the thriller.

    In this installment, Sidney Prescott, now the author of a self-help book, returns home to Woodsboro on the last stop of her book tour. There she reconnects with Sheriff Dewey and Gale, who are now married, as well as her cousin Jill and her Aunt Kate. Unfortunately, Sidney’s appearance also brings about the return of Ghostface, putting Sidney, Gale, and Dewey, along with Jill, her friends, and the whole town of Woodsboro in danger.

     

     

    There is no doubt we should all be prepared to see more of this 20 year-old actress.  Not only is Jennifer Lawrence beautiful, she is extremely talented.  She was recently nominated for an Oscar for her role in Winter’s Bone.  She is already slated to appear in three 2011 films, the most significant of which is X-Men: First Class.  She will portray the ever-changing, but always sexy, Mystique.

    As we’ve mentioned in previous posts, X-Men: First class will go back in time to explore the relationship between Professor X and Mageneto before they were arch enemies.  Be sure to check out this film June 3, 2011.

     

     

    Rosie Huntington-Whitely is mostly known for her work as a Victoria’s Secret model- for now!! This 23 year-old beauty has been cast to replace Megan Fox’s character in the next installment of the Transformers franchise;  Transformers: Dark of the Moon.

    In this epic adventure, The Autobots learn of a Cybertronian spacecraft hidden on the Moon, and race against the Decepticons to reach it and learn its secrets, which could turn the tide in the Transformers’ final battle.  Be sure to catch this film while it is in theaters, starting July 1, 2011.

     

     

    Mia Wasikowska may be a name you don’t recognize, but it is definitely one you won’t forget.  And the actresses’ face is as memorable as her name.  You will remember her as Alice from Tim Burton’s Alice In Wonderland.  And over the next 2 years, you will see her star in more than 9 films.  One of the most notable may be Jane Eyre, in which Wasikowska will portray Eyre herself.

    In this film,  Jane Eyre goes out into the world to become a governess, after a bleak childhood. As she lives happily in her new position at Thornfield Hall, she meets the dark, cold, and abrupt master of the house, Mr. Rochester, who she grows close in friendship and soon finds herself falling in love with him. Happiness seems to have found Jane at last, but  Mr. Rochester’s terrible secret could destroy her happiness forever.

    Neon Hitch, an English singer and songwriter, has embraced her gypsy routes, bringing not only her talent to the table, but also her creativity. After opening for 50 Cent in 2007, Hitch has made a name for herself co-writing and doing background vocals for some of today’s hottest tracks, including Kesha’s “Blah Blah Blah”, 3Oh!3’s “Follow Me Down”, and tracks by Bruno Mars, Imogen Heap, Jason Derulo, and more.

     

    Now that she has signed with Warner Bros. Records, there is no doubt she is on her way to stardom. In January of this year Hitch released her first single, “Get Over You”, on iTunes; her debut album, Beg, Borrow and Steal was released February 22 2011.  Her 2011 music tour begins in London, starting on March 3rd.

    Based out of Detroit, this singer/songwriter is bringing something distinct and different to our ears.  Alex Winston was originally classically trained in opera but has covered artists like Chuck Berry, The Rolling Stones and Mumford & Sons. Her sound is a mixture of “something old, something new and something uniquely her own”.

    Winston’s debut album, which she is working on with the production duo The Knocks, is slated for release later this year.  Check out a live performance of Alex Winston’s ‘Choice Notes‘ below:

    Maiara Walsh is an up and coming Brazilian-American actress. The 23 year-old starred in the film Lullaby Before I Wake Up and in the TV series Desperate Housewives, for which she is most known.  Maiara has also made repeat appearances in over 8 television series, including The Vampire Diaries, The Secret Life of an American Teenager, Corey in the House, and Disney’s Unfabulous. Her upcoming projects include a leading role in the film, Mean Girls 2.

    Off screen Maiara is a girl with a greater mission. She has co-hosted “Girl Prep”, the first conference developed to reach and empower teen girls, ages 10-13, to be more involved in their community. The conference touches on important issues such as self esteem boosting, leadership growth, and violence prevention. In addition, Maiara is devoted to the Young Women’s Empowerment Network, a non-profit leader development organization serving at risk African American and Latina teen girls.
