HBO’s hit series Game Of Thrones premiered the first episode of their third season last Sunday March 31st which has been the most watched episode ever. The live premiere had over 4.4 Million viewers and reached a grand total of 6.7 million viewers together with the two repeats of that night.

Game Of Thrones is based on the series of fantasy novels  A Song Of Ice And Fire by George R. R. Martin. The show explores a medieval-like fantasy world with its plethora of characters all struggling in the only game that matters – The game of thrones. A game full of issues of social hierarchy, religion, civil war, sexuality, crime and punishment.

The first season of Game Of Thrones premiered on HBO in the United States on April 17, 2011 with a rating of 2.2 million viewers. Since then, the series has grown an enormously and it’s dedicated fan base can be compared to that of  Star Wars and Harry Potter. The series even received universal acclaim by a whole list of awards including a Golden Globe Award nomination for Best Television Series – Drama, two Primetime Emmy Award nominations for Outstanding Drama Series and won Program of the Year on the TCA Awards.

The popularity of the series has even branched as far as your local grocery store as Belgian-style Brewery Ommegang is releasing the first official Game Of Thrones beer – or mead, as it is commonly referred to by GoT characters. The producers of the show are a great fan of Ommegang and because beer is such a great part of the show they set up a special line of beers. Over the course of this season, various kinds of beers inspired by the series will be available, beginning with Iron Throne, a blonde ale.

Season 3 will be another set of 10 episodes like the previous 2 seasons, ending on June 9. The show is full of plots and numerous characters will be seen on HBO every Sunday at 9 p.m.
