Previous Disney icon and twelve-time Teen Choice Award winner Selena Gomez is all grown up and stronger than ever with her new studio album titled Revival.
The Wizards of Waverly Place star wanted to display both heartbreak and confidence within her new record, all with a tropical beach beat. Selena’s second solo studio album was released on October 9th under new recording contracts with Interscope and Polydor Records. The artist had previously finished her contract with Hollywood Records (owned by the Disney Company) and decided it was time to start a new chapter in her career. Revival debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 in October, selling more than 6.7 million album copies and downloads worldwide. Her lead single “Good for You” also sparked success right away. The song debuted at number nine on the US Billboard Hot 100 and eventually stole the number five spot, along with spending three consecutive weeks at No. 1 on Top 40 Radio. This made it her highest chart topping single in her career thus far. “Same Old Love,” the artist’s second single off of the album, charted within the top 20 of Billboard’s Hot 100 as well.
On top of commercial success, her album has also received critical success. Rolling Stone describes it as “the sound of a newly empowered pop artist growing into her strengths like never before.”
Selena will be honored for her recent success as a Chart Topper at Billboard’s Women in Music 2015 on December 18 on Lifetime.
