Kelly Clarkson has been in and out of the music spotlight since she won the first season of American Idol in 2002. In the over a decade since that win, Clarkson has accumulated ninety-one number ones on the Billboard charts and eleven international number one singles, and has sold over 20 million albums worldwide.

On January 12, 2015, “Heartbeat Song” was released by RCA Records as the lead single from her upcoming seventh studio album, Piece by Piece. The song is an uptempo synthpop track produced by Greg Kurstin. The lyrics tell a story of meeting a person who restores someone’s faith in love.

The single debuted on the Billboard Hot 100 chart at number 37 and has so far peaked at number 34, marking her sixteenth top 40 hit on the chart. It also became Clarkson’s highest debut among her twenty career entries on the Billboard Adult Top 40 chart. Critically, the single received a generally positive response.
