Blake Lively, the actress/model known for her six-year run on Gossip Girl as well as notable roles in the films Savages and The Town, announced last week that she is launching a lifestyle brand in the coming months. The 26-year-old is looking to build her brand through ways other than acting, telling Vogue UK, “I have so many passions outside of acting and things that I grew up being good at and that I don’t utilize when acting. “Acting was something that my family did so I just kind of got into it by default, but there was so much that I cultivated thinking that I wouldn’t be an actor.”

Although Lively describes her new company as one of a kind and “without a genre,” publications are speculating that it will be comparable to an actress who currently occupies the same space. Actress Gwyneth Paltrow is the founder of the “Goop” brand, a website and weekly newsletter which “gives readers access to recipes, travel guides, fashion, wellness tips, cultural notes and more.” The “Goop” brand, at first mocked for promoting an unobtainable lifestyle, has turned out to be a relatively successful venture for Paltrow, reaching over 1 million subscribers. The company debuted its first-ever exclusive clothing collection this month, and beauty publications are raving about Paltrow’s excellent taste in fashion.

Lively will be hard-pressed to measure up to Paltrow’s success, but the actress has shown she can be a player in lifestyle branding. Lively has promoted and partnered with Sprinkles Bakeries as well as La Cornue Ovens. She demonstrated her cooking abilities with model Elettra Wiedermann when the two filmed a cooking segment at the Bedford Post Inn Kitchen and baked a sausage puff pastry. On the segment, Lively revealed that for her birthday she cooked at the upscale NY restaurant Per Se, and commented that she wowed the chefs that were there.

Along with launching her new company, Lively has been busy of late. She married actor Ryan Reynolds in September 2012, and acted as a spokesperson for Gucci’s 2013 campaign, “Chime for Change” which aims to further awareness of women’s issues in education, health and justice. Blake also told Vogue UK that she will be working on a film in 2014.
