Canadian rapper Drake hasn’t put out a mixtape since 2009 when he dropped So Far Gone, and on the six year anniversary of his last mixtape’s release, Drake surprised fans by putting out a new mixtape titled If You’re Reading This It’s Too Late. On February 13, 2015, Drake seemed to pull a “2013 Beyonce” and dropped the mixtape without much warning.

The 17 track mixtape features artists like Lil Wayne, PARTYNEXTDOOR, and Travi$ Scott. Critics have praised Drake’s lyrical growth and the outstanding production of the album. It was regarded favorably with contemporary music critics. The Rolling Stones stated, “For the first time in his career, Drake doesn’t sound like he wants to be remembered as one of the greats. This time, he just is.” The mixtape debuted at number 1 on the US Billboard 200. Though Drake and OVO Sound consider the album a mixtape with it’s release on iTunes it is viewed as a fourth studio album by Cash Money Records due to copyright. There has been little word about the release of Views From the 6, which was intended to be Drake’s fourth studio album.
